Over the weekend

I dont normally read or buy Malay newspaper on weekend as i think it is full of malaysian artists gossips and boring things. however as i was in my home town with my family and my parents bought the pancaindera hiburan yesterday, so i kinda flipped through it while lazying in front of the tele.

and there it was this woman reporter interviewing anuar zain on his new album. gosh! can the reporter leave it alone by now??? one full page of this. ummmm i said this is very very interesting! y not so i read the whole page!!!

honestly, as anuar said, money is not an issue. y if RM100,000.00, salah ker. banyak sangat ker? what if RM500,000.00??? membazir ker? seriously please leave him at that la. doing sumthing that u like cant be rate by money la. and him choosing indonesian composer..hey please dont let me start.

as i have said previously in my earlier entry on Anugerah Era i think, we malaysian, especially the people in the music industry to just wake up and please do sumthing. come on!! an indonesian song won the category for staying the longest in a music chart of a local radio!!! helow!!! y???? an indonesian group and obviously their album were done by indonesians composer and musicians!!!!

and i dont blame them. i also love Samson, i think they have really a good album and the hit song 'kenangan terindah' is definately one of my fav.

and my point is, we cant deny that indonesian composers have a different style and unique song approach and creativity. so, should we support the industry or should we let it die because of where these composers were born is nowhere in the malaysians geography and/or jurisdsction.

sumtimes if i watch melody on sunday at tv3, they showed our local artist got very angry and being vocal to some agents or middle men or entertainment agency who brought in all this too many overseas singers and group to do concerts here. this local artist gone 'amuk' of y we malaysian/government ker are too relax by letting them (oversean singers and talent) to be marketed in our country.

let me tell u all local artist out there, if u are confident that ur music is global enuff to be sold abroad than by all means, please go ahead and spread ur wings! i think our Siti Nurhaliza has done her part. she is big in indonesia, singapore and am sure brunei too. am proud of her. she managed to be recognised and bring her album and music abroad, using i guess both local and indonesian composers...no one say a word on this. no one make an issue.

please la people...i guess it is time to take ur music whenever u want to take it. support our local artist!!! support their album. not condemning them in every way that u could find, re composers, the value of the album, the money the artist spent on each song...y take indonesians composers instead of the locals. ayo!!!! kita masih berada di takuk lama nampaknya. terlalu mempersoalkan benda benda yang remeh.

whoever anuar wants to pick for his album, let him be. am sure he knows wat he is doing and his fans will surely support his decision in this. i am for one. true as he said, doesnt mean that the local composers are not good, y we malaysian always think negative and the other side of the fence, it seriously baffles me till this day.

somtimes we have to wake up and realised that the competition is big.

we should applaud tho those who willing to exceed their limits and boundaries.

again anuar, aja aja fighting!

Wow...its for the 1st time i can actually agree with u on this one.

It is simple, if its good let be local or foriegner, it will be accepted by the public.

cantik jer disclaimer u kat first para -- watever.

hahaaa :p

yup, i find what you wrote in line with my thoughts.

but i slightly disagree with your anugerah era remark -- to me music is universal. good music is simply that. regardless where its from, who sings it, who is in the collabo, the language.

indonesian or not, that SONG is the song that stayed longest. it is a malaysian award, yes, but should malaysians listen to a malaysian song more (than Kenangan Terindah) SOLELY BECAUSE it is created/sung by malaysians? to me, no.

to address your "helow!!!y???" -- i think samsons won simply because the public wants to hear that song the most. the song managed to intrigue the public in a way they want it to stay at no 1 -- irrespective whether the composers and musicians are indonesians. (are they? did you check?). simply put, it fulfills what the public wants to hear. thus it stayed as long as it did.

if a malaysian song captured the malaysian public the way samsons' song did, then of course the results would have been different.

and yes, kudos to those who are talented, are given the opportunity and are trying to break free from being pigeonholed.

chocpot,

i have no issue why samson menang as an indonesian band. of all things, am so universal in my choice of music ;-)as u know and
i totally agree of what u said, they deserve to win. if rivermaya menang pun i have no issue. ir RAin menang pun i lagi takde issue. *sigh* (love rain)

im okay with people not listening to local music as i also listen to a lot of non-malaysian music ;-). of course doesnt mean that ur a malaysian mmg kena dengar malaysian music. omg!!! i cant imagine life without Rain's music!!! helow!!!

however, i think u misunderstood my point.

my point is that it should be a shout to the malaysian industry-REALITY CHECK GUYS!!!! wat i am saying that its our local radio and it should be our song that stay the longest (in relation to merdeka, semangat kemerdekaan ku kuat di hati). malaysian composer malaysian singer. well we already 50 tahun merdeka, we should like pertahankan dan local music yang should be the longest song that stay in the chart. we should by now have products that can match or can be even better quality that our neighbours countries. thats what i mean, thats y i said they should realise and wake up that the competition is big. local industry should work harder to be recognise even in ur own turf.

even if Mawi menang i would be like errrr but then yeah thats the way it is suppose to be.

chocpot,

the composer of the song 'kenangan terindah' is none other than Irfan, guitarist of Samson based on personal experiences.

PO..

hmm how la like this?

first of all, i wouldnt call myself a samsons fan tho i do enjoy that song.

second, i dont disagree that the music scene in malaysia needs to improve -- to me this goes without saying.

but i have to say that i enjoy quite a number of contemporary bands of current times. melikey.

ANYWAY. what i was saying earlier on was I THINK that music really shouldnt be generalised into countries and we shouldn't have a "belilah-barangan-buatan-malaysia" element when listening to songs. why? because it can be 4000% malaysian, but if its shite, it is shite.

if a song is good, it is that. if it doesnt appeal to the public, then it just doesnt. full stop.

the fact that it is penned/sung by indonesian or japanese or french does not matter.

but if we segregate music according to country, how then would you classisfy the anuar zain song which he worked with the indonesian composer? and what if that song goes big in indonesia later on? would it be something to pat our backs for because anuar zain is malaysian? or something not to be proud of because it isnt 100% malaysian? the list of questions would go on and on.

my point is, my dear PO, TO ME a good song is universal, tidak perlu ditelitikan samada ianya malaysian atau pun tidak.

and yes, i do understand that you were merely voicing out your opinion to the betterment of the local music industry.

bona fide,
chocpot :p

I agree with CP. How gives a shit ass whether the composer or siger is Malaysian or not? Seriously? As long as it is pleasant to one's ear, that is good enough.

When we listen to Rihanna for example, do we care that she is from freaking Barbados or something?

Errr Mawi...errrrr think again la.
